What's So Cool About the Technology? I'll Tell You!!

Last night, I attended a conference for Women in Tech Media as part of Internet Week in NY.

One of the panelist, Jennifer Hyman from Rent the Runway, said that it's important to "...Engage younger generations of women in technology early so they are ahead of the curve." She went on to talk about how some of the highest paying careers are now in the field of technology.

You already love it, you use it stay connected and share with your friends and its in the simplest of your everyday activities. You are using technology far more than generations before you, multitasking -- downloading/uploading videos, texting, video chatting and surfing the internet.

So why not turn something you love to do everyday into a potential career opportunity. The number of women in digital technology is increasing rapidly.

You're already online more than 63% of your day (according to a recent Nielsen NetView study), you already do it so why not learn the intricacies of what makes it so great.

My career focus happens to be in digital advertising and there are new mediums introduced to the industry everyday that you can make your area of expertise.

Some of these includes:
- Website development
- Mobile applications development
- Computer software engineer
- Social media development
- Information technology analyst
- Database administrators

Interested in learning more? See if your school has a technology program or department, research and find out if there are local groups in your community. Or start your own technology program and get your friends to join too.

The more important thing is to start now, make it interesting and make it your own!
