When I was approached about being a guest blogger, I was very excited but it’s been difficult to figure out how I want to share my message in a way that would interest you and push you to think.
Then it hit me this morning, I should think about what my friends and I used to like between the ages of 10-17. Of course times have changed, but many interests still stay the same. I’m sure many of you are interested in making money. In fact, that is one of the most common things I hear teens, and adults say. How do you plan to make money? Some of you are not old enough to work a part-time job. Some may not have enough experience to get a job, especially in this economy. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t earn money.
What are your talents? What things do you do really well? What would you do for other people whether you got paid or not? These are great things to think about, as they may lead you to your first business venture. If you have ever participated in a school or organization fundraiser, you have already started gaining entrepreneurial experience.
What is an entrepreneur? Simply someone who starts their own business or does business for themselves. Anyone can become an entrepreneur. It’s just a matter of getting started. If you have ever sold candy, had a lemonade stand, sold freeze pops, raffle tickets, or any number of other items, you have already begun to learn one of the most valuable skills in business – selling. Selling simply involves telling people about what you do or your products. We will talk more about this later.
If you take anything away from the post, just know that you already have the skill and talents to start your own business. You just have to figure out what you will offer. Think about needs you have seen in your community, school, or among family and friends. Think about things people really want. For example, a lot of young people start lawn care businesses because it fills a need in their community. You could start a baby sitting business. You could start an errand-running business. Think about it! If you could use any of your skills, talents, and abilities, what would you do to start earning money for yourself today?
