The Masks That We Wear

You suppose that you are the lock on the door, but you are the key that opens it ...

It's too bad that you want to be someone else, You don't see your own face, your own beauty ...

Yet, NO FACE IS MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN YOURS.

I used to judge myself, my life, my happiness based on outside perceptions of other people. Sometimes I felt so ugly inside and thought everyone was living a better life than I was, without knowing their truth. It took me a very long time, not to judge myself based on how someone else looked on the outside, or their situation.

You may have some amazing role models in your life, such as parents, siblings, other relatives, friends, teachers etc. Do you love them for the way the look? The answer is probably no ... or, do you feel as though you have no one you can talk to, look up to, trust, that no one has anything to offer you, that they just don't understand?

What ever the situation, I had to accept who I was. The good, the bad, the ugliness (which is based on MY faulty vision of MYself).

I had to fully accept myself as I am. What I thought were my weaknesses, my failures, my limitations, even my accomplishments.

Take a look within. Who are you living for? Who are you trying to be?

When you get ready for school, or to go out with your friends, do spend most of your time trying to look like someone else, changing yourself from the outside?

If you wear makeup, are you trying to hide your true self or do you apply make up to enhance this beauty? Maybe you don't do anything at all. Is this out of confidence and pure acceptance, or are you thinking "what's the use"?

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Do you see the beauty generated from within or do you mask yourself to fit in?

Did you ever stop to ask yourself "what are you trying to fit into"?

Appear as you are or be as you appear.

  1. This is so honest and true. Thank you for writing this! I felt this way my whole life until not long ago. I now see "the beauty generated from within"!
