How can you get fit by gaining? Well, first of all, we no longer need to punish ourselves in order to be healthy. We need a new and fresh perspective and an attitude adjustment. We gain benefits by eating well, nourishing our bodies, and regular exercise.
When we take care of bodies, they take care of us! By supplying our body with nutrients that we need, it provides short term and long term benefits such as more energy. Most importantly, we build our self esteem! Regular exercise enhances our strength, improves our metabolism and keeps our hearts healthy.
Group sports help us feel a sense of belonging as we are part of a team and a community. Anytime we regularly participate or continuously see the same people, our relationships and sense of familiarity grow, not to mention improves our fitness level and performance. On the days when we are dragging or feeling low, we can reach out to our team or friends who can help motivate us. Half the battle is taking the steps to do an activity. Once we begin, we always feel better!
Last year, I decided to participate in a 'Figure' contest (which is similar to body building with an emphasis on maintaining feminine proportions) and competed against women 10-15 years younger than me. I was nervous and anxious about being on a stage in front of hundreds of people. I challenged my comfort zone, followed the advice of my trainer and ended up winning the show!
However, the lessons I learned were more valuable than winning. Pushing my comfort zone, the act of doing something that I always wanted to do, and taking advice and accepting help built my confidence and self esteem so now I walk a little more upright and can say to myself, "I did it"!
Is there a race that you want to run? A team you want to join?
Don't let that little voice inside sabotage you by saying you are not good enough. You already won the battle when you decide to do it!
If you simply sign up, you never know, you may even win!
